growing up i used to dance by myself all of the time. this one time my parents were out of the house i was doing an especially precocious EROTIC DANCE (i was 12) to prince's "let's go crazy," the guitar solo, in which i was becoming one with the floor in my new jersey living room. my god it was like i was INVENTING the orgasm right then and there, and suddenly i realized that the doorbell had been ringing and it was the delivery man from ups staring at me through the front door window. this moment of shame has subsequently informed all of my dance works ever since.
