sabine scholl ist von einem intensiven leseprogramm und einem ihr gewidmetem symposium aus tokyo und den japanischen alpen nach nagoya zurueckgekehrt, wo sie leider von der grippe ueberfallen wurde. die baeder in den heissen schwefelquellen nozawa-onsens konnten das nicht verhindern. daher kommt es zu einer verspaetung der letzten korrekturen.

die klassen der diesjährigen virtuellen akademie schliessen am 9.11. 2003. wir danken den studentinnen und studenten, sowie allen partnern, und freuen uns auf die akademie 2004.

Es ist zwar Herbst, die Stadt Nagoya groß und ich arbeite hier an der Universität, aber die Verlockung des Haikus dennoch ungebrochen. Während des Unterrichts ruft draußen am Campus ein Verkäufer seine Ware aus: Süsskartoffeln! Der Singsang klingt sehr zeremoniell, die Studenten kichern. Am Montag feiern wir den Tag des Sports.
Today is not September 11th
Today is not September 11th, and Sabine Scholl and Renée Gadsden are not in New York City. If today were September 11th, we would have been in New York City, reading the poems and prose pieces sent in by sfd class participants and commenting on them. On September 12th Sabine Scholl would have been presenting a literature evening at the Austrian Cultural Forum entitled "Mental Maps", and closing the event with a reference to our online class "Memory and City". If it were Monday September 15th, we would have been onstage at the acf in a performance with the same name as the Internet class, accompanied by composer Rupert Huber, who used electronics to be a third voice in the reading, playing a piece entitled "Exile in A" which he created for the event. Sabine Scholl and Renée Gadsden have both taught at the sfd before; "Memory and City", however, is their first class together. They also held a joint reading at the Alte Schmiede in Vienna; the evening of September 15th with Rupert Huber was a world premiere. Inspired by the beauty of the performance, the three have informally spoken of continuing the cooperation.
